BYOS vs. SASE

A comparison between BYOS and SASE.

Why is BYOS better than a SASE?

  • SASE depends on (and is controlled by) the OS.
  • By the time SASE engages, the attack is already inside the endpoint.
  • SASE is not quite compatible with legacy and unmanaged devices.
  • SASE will stop some endpoint attacks successfully, but they will still be fooled by network attacks.
  • SASE is heavily dependent on the cloud, while BYOS provides decentralized protection.

What can SASE do that BYOS can't?

  • Save you money on hardware.
  • Provide protection on the application layer (phishing, malware, DLP) although it will be heavy on resource consumption and depend on the end-user's device reaching the cloud.
